1. What one thing did you do better today?
I took moments throughout the day and focused purely on breathing. On breathing deeply, on being calm and present.
2. Has doing so made you or someone else feel better?
3. Has it brought any new realisations?
A few days ago I had my therapy session and the first thing I was asked to do was a quick check in. Check in into how I felt at that very moment. How my body felt, where my mind was at. My answer was that I felt like rushing, my body performing at 120% and that I had been really looking forward to therapy, knowing if not before, I will then for certain calm down and be present for at least that one hour. Then I did some visualisations, imagining seeing myself from a distance. What I saw was a woman picking flowers and making a bouquet. But while doing so instead of admiring the beautiful flowers she is picking and already holding in her hands, she is focused on the end point, the destination, when the bouquet will be finished, ready and perfect. Missing the beauty of now and rushing to the next thing. It was an amazing insight as it described well how I often feel these days. So today I did a check in and remembered to be present with the help of breathing. Taking deep breaths, counting the breathing in and lengthening the breathing out is such an easy way for me to stop rushing and shift my attention from either past or future to now. It feels like a very short meditation but with a great and instant impact.
Do you practice deep breaths regularly? How often do you take seconds to slow down and notice how your body feels?
